Use this as a print-and-tick checklist for your next tattoo.
24 Hours Before
- [ ] Sleep well (8 hours+)
- [ ] No alcohol
- [ ] No aspirin or ibuprofen — they thin the blood
- [ ] Stay hydrated — drink more water than usual
- [ ] Eat a real meal 1–2 hours before the appointment
- [ ] Wear loose, easy-to-move clothing that exposes the area
- [ ] Bring snacks, water and a phone charger
- [ ] Confirm appointment + artist's preferred payment method
At the Studio
- [ ] Arrive 10 minutes early
- [ ] Eat something if low blood sugar — most studios have snacks
- [ ] Look at the stencil from every angle before they start
- [ ] Speak up about size/placement adjustments now, not later
- [ ] Tip — usually 15–20% if you're happy
24 Hours After
- [ ] Leave the wrap on as long as your artist said
- [ ] First wash: lukewarm water, fragrance-free soap, pat dry
- [ ] Apply a thin layer of recommended balm
- [ ] No alcohol for at least 24 hours (it thins the blood, blowouts get worse)
- [ ] Sleep on clean sheets, fresh pillowcase
- [ ] Don't re-bandage
