The New Tattoo Checklist
Use this print-and-tick checklist for your next tattoo. The 24 hours before, during, and after.
- Sleep 8 hours+
- No alcohol the night before
- No aspirin or ibuprofen — they thin the blood
- Drink more water than usual
- Eat a real meal 1–2 hours before
- Wear loose clothing that exposes the area
- Bring snacks, water and a phone charger
- Confirm appointment + payment method with the studio
- Arrive 10 minutes early
- Eat something if blood sugar is low
- Look at the stencil from every angle before they start
- Speak up about size/placement now, not later
- Tip 15–20% if you're happy with the work
- Leave the wrap on as long as your artist said
- First wash: lukewarm water, fragrance-free soap, pat dry
- Apply a thin layer of recommended balm
- No alcohol for at least 24 hours
- Sleep on clean sheets, fresh pillowcase
- Don't re-bandage
