Most tattoos heal on the surface in 2–3 weeks and fully heal in 4 weeks. Here's what to expect at each stage.

Day 1 — Open wound Bandage stays on per artist instructions (1 hour to 24 hours). When it comes off, gently wash with lukewarm water and unscented soap. Pat dry. No bandage from now.

Day 2–3 — Plasma & swelling Tattoo will weep clear plasma and ink — totally normal. Wash 2–3x daily. Apply a thin layer of approved balm. May feel hot to touch.

Day 4–6 — Tightness sets in Skin tightens. Slight scabbing forms. DO NOT pick. Continue washing and moisturising. Avoid pools, gym, sauna, sun.

Day 7–14 — Peeling stage Top skin layer flakes off, like a sunburn. Itching peaks. Tap, don't scratch. Tattoo may look dull — this is normal.

Day 15–21 — Surface healed Top layer is healed. Tattoo can look slightly cloudy or “milky” — deeper layers are still settling.

Day 22–30 — Fully healed Tattoo settles into final colour and clarity. SPF50+ from now on, every time you go outside. Forever.
